We Believe in Drones for Good
Aerial drones and other autonomous mobile robots can serve purposes beyond delivering enterprises new insights and competitive efficiencies–their data can be applied to foster and support social good. With Hangar OnDemand we’ve created an end-to-end process that makes acquisition easy, autonomous missions possible, and drone data valuable — everything simplified down to a handful of mouse clicks or smartphone taps.
For organizations, we’ve created a first-of-its-kind map-based ability to “click to request” aerial data for capture. When a location is requested, a new pin will appear on the organization’s map for contributors to capture. The contributor’s side of the process is just as simple. From takeoff, we’ve automated the entire process of flight logistics and aerial capture. The user simply has to select “go,” and then monitor the drone as it autonomously collects the data requested by an organization.
Featured Community – University of California Nature Reserve System
Let Hangar introduce you Dr. Gregory Crutsinger and Dr. Todd Dawson by way of the following video use case study. Drs. Crutsinger and Dawson share with you their efforts at the University of California – Berkley Natural Reserve System (UCNRS). This is a national treasure consisting of 40 reserves scattered throughout the many habitat types in California. These lands encompass over 750,00 acres and there is nothing comparable with respect to scale and diversity in the world.
For more information visit UCNRS.org.
The UCNRS is facing several unique problems and have found Hangar’s OnDemand Community solution to be a remarkable enabler that you’ll hear about from the scientists themselves in the following short video.
The challenges faced with such a massive resource centers around the data. There are no standard capture methods, no central secure shareable repository and no central mechanism for collaboration and data intermingling.
These logistics issues are compounded massively by what they characterize as a “Day Zero” problem with the Heart Beat Freshwater for Californians initiative. If a solution to the mega drought conditions Californians have and continue to experience they may be a day when all life will cease to occupy those lands. Sounds very dramatic because it really is.
The natural interdependencies on this Reserve System require careful study to maintain and guarantee the balance of the ecosystems that provide fresh water for all organisms to continues to thrive.
Recently a significant grant from the Moore Foundation has been awarded to the scientists and UCBNRS to facilitate the study. Please watch the video to learn how Hangar OnDemand for Communities has provided its own grant of tools and processes to enable solutions for UNCRS and Drs. Crutsinger and Dawson and hundreds of other scientists and volunteers.

Outlined below are step by step walkthrough videos of the Hangar OnDemand solution.
Quick Start “How-To” Videos
Inviting Contributors & Administrators
Easily invite Contributors and Administrators to your world. Administrators can request and view data, Contributors capture.
Accepting Contributor Invite
As a contributor, the first step to capturing data for an organization is to Accept your invitation and download the iOS application.
Requesting data from your community of contributors is easy. Simply find your location of interest, outline your area of capture, and add data types. The data will be delivered directly back to the map, in the location your determined.
Data capture is completely Autonomous. Connect your DJI drone to your iOS device, claim a pin, and your drone will do the rest.
With On-The-Fly Missions, you can easily take 360 photos anywhere you would like. If you have used Hangar 360 before, this will function very much in the same way.
View your requested data, delivered back directly to your organization’s world. Easily share and explore new insights.
Download your data using Hangars Asset Managment system, Console. Data can be downloaded in its raw or transformed state to be used for anything from point cloud creation to computer vision and machine learning.
Below you will find frequently asked questions about Hangar OnDemand
What data types are available currently?
Currently, Hangar OnDemand supports 360-degree photo captures. More data types will be arriving soon – stay tuned!
How do I find contributors for my organization?
We recommend reaching out to your existing community of active followers. This can be done on social media or email campaigns.
Can I request a large data set based on other data sets?
If you have a pre-existing data set of pins or shape files, we will work with you to populate the points or shapes into appropriate missions to get you the data you need. Don’t worry, we have optimized the process to be quick, easy, and efficient.
Do you support android devices?
Our application is only available for iOS devices.
